2012 STATE OF TEXAS KOLACHE BAKE SHOW

First United Methodist Church
Caldwell, Texas

Kolache, the original Czech wedding pastry, is a favorite national dessert throughout Czechoslovakia. The art of baking Kolache came with the early immigrants to Burleson County. Bakers have competed for 19 years to win the coveted title of Grand Champion Kolache Baker of Burleson County.

The Kolache Bake Show is open to adult and youth non-professional and professional bakers. Youth ages 9 through 19 as of January 1, 2011, may enter the Youth Divisions. Professionals are those individuals who have owned or been employed by a bakery and/or those who have received more than $500 in gross sales from sale of baked goods from their home or any other means. Once entered as professional, then always a professional. All others are considered non-professional.

  • All Burleson County non-professionals may enter in Burleson County or State Division. They may enter in only one division in any given year. This applies to both youth and adult non-professionals.
  • Entries must consist of 6 average size Kolaches of the same filling.  These will be transferred by the committee to a plain disposable plate.  The 11 classes are:  Apple, Apricot, Cheese, Cheese Combination, Peach, Poppyseed, Prune, Sausage, Other Fruit, Other Meat, and Other. (Tea Rings, Strudels, or any other form of baked goods are not accepted). Participants may enter only 5 classes, one entry per class.
  • Kolache entries must be made by one person, no team entries.
  • Registration will be from 8:00 to 9:45am on September 10.  No entries will be accepted after 9:45a.m.
  • Judging will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
  • All Kolaches will be sold to cover the cost of the event. Extra donated Kolaches will be accepted and appreciated to help defray the cost of the Bake Show.
  • Grand Champions, Reserve Champions, and first place winners will be announced in the Festival awards ceremony at or around 3:30pm at the South Stage (corner of Buck and Echols).
