2012 STATE OF TEXAS KOLACHE BAKE SHOW

Kolache, the original Czech wedding
pastry, is a favorite national dessert throughout Czechoslovakia.
The art of baking Kolache came with the early immigrants to Burleson
County. Bakers have competed for 19 years to win the coveted title
of Grand Champion Kolache Baker of Burleson County.
The Kolache Bake Show is open to
adult and youth non-professional and professional
bakers. Youth ages
9 through 19 as of January 1, 2011, may enter the Youth Divisions.
Professionals are those individuals who have owned or been employed
by a bakery and/or those who have received more than $500 in gross
sales from sale of baked goods from their home or any other means.
Once entered as professional, then always a professional. All others
are considered non-professional.
- All Burleson
County non-professionals may enter in Burleson County or State
Division. They may enter in only one division in any given year.
This applies to both youth and adult non-professionals.
- Entries must
consist of 6 average size Kolaches of the same filling. These
will be transferred by the committee to a plain disposable
plate. The 11 classes are: Apple, Apricot, Cheese, Cheese
Combination, Peach, Poppyseed, Prune, Sausage, Other Fruit,
Other Meat, and Other. (Tea Rings, Strudels, or any other
form of baked goods are not accepted). Participants may enter only 5 classes,
one entry per class.
- Kolache
entries must be made by one person, no team entries.
- Registration
will be from 8:00 to 9:45am on September 10. No entries will be
accepted after 9:45a.m.
- Judging will
begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
- All Kolaches
will be sold to cover the cost of the event. Extra donated
Kolaches will be accepted and appreciated to help defray the
cost of the Bake Show.
- Grand
Champions, Reserve Champions, and first place winners will be
announced in the Festival awards ceremony at or around 3:30pm at
the South Stage (corner of Buck and Echols).
- Ribbons
awarded for all entries will be given to participants
immediately after awards ceremony.
- Decisions of
the Kolache Bake Show Committee are final.
