Description
The Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) July 21, 2018 program will focus on our life journeys, especially genealogical and is open to anyone interested. Jump start your journey. How many times have you asked questions about what happened to a person or about events, places, and dates in your family genealogy? Now is the time to get organized and collect those family stories and try to solve missing information. Keynote motivational speaker and author, Peter Vodenka, will provide a captivating true story of “hope, faith, struggle, life and death, freedom and success” as he and his family escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia on a cold, rainy night while being chased by guards with automatic weapons. He had planned this escape for many years and was successful, resulting in their Journey for Freedom to America. Clint Williams will speak on “Helping Others Get Restarted on Their Genealogy Journey”, focusing on the task of figuring out how to proceed when one has hit a brick wall. Gladys Valchar’s journey to visit her ancestral home in Moravia in 2017 resulted in a very different trip than she had envisioned. After falling into a ditch and breaking her leg, her goal was to get home to Texas, She will tell about the challenges of being in Czech ambulances, hospitals, and rehab centers where everyone spoke Czech and she spoke only English! Membership in TCGS is not required to attend. TCGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
